Be R.E.A.D.Y. for Change: Turn Fear into Growth

Change is one of the few certainties in life, yet it is also one of the things people resist the most. In today’s world, change is no longer slow or predictable. It is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (aka VUCA). That is why the ability to adapt has become essential, both in business and in life.

“F.E.A.R. is often described as False Evidence Appearing Real” (Vujicic 2010)

When change appears, it often brings stress. That is normal. Stress is a signal that something is shifting and that we may not yet feel prepared. What we often call fear is usually not a real danger, but an anticipation of something that might go wrong. In many cases, “F.E.A.R. is often described as False Evidence Appearing Real” (Vujicic 2010). In those situations, anxiety does not mean you are weak. It often means you are standing at the edge of growth.

The good news is that nervousness can actually be a positive sign. It may mean that the change matters to you. It means you are not indifferent. It means you are about to commit to something important. And when that happens, preparation becomes your best ally.

A helpful way to face change is to become R.E.A.D.Y.:

  • Reproduce the situation in your mind before it happens.
  • Exercise and learn about it.
  • Acknowledge fear through self-reflection.
  • Diminish your worries by sharing them with others.
  • Yes, you can — keep your focus on the desired outcome.

The question is not whether change will come. The question is how you will respond when it does come.

You do not need to eliminate fear in order to move forward. You only need to decide not to let it control your next step. Like Neo in The Matrix, you are always facing a choice: stay in the comfort of what you already know, or step into the unknown and grow. The question is not whether change will come. The question is how you will respond when it does come.

Summary and Practical Tip:

Change is unavoidable, and feeling nervous about it is normal. In a fast-moving, VUCA world, growth depends on our ability to see fear not as a stop sign, but as a signal that we are entering new territory. By preparing ourselves, reflecting on our fears, and staying connected to our purpose, we can turn uncertainty into progress. Change may be uncomfortable, but it is also where transformation begins.

💡 Practical tip: The next time you feel nervous about a change, write down one thing you fear, one thing you can prepare for, and one small action you can take today. Then do that action before the day ends. 🚀

Wishing You a FabuLux Weekend! 😉
